The Berkeley Food Pantry welcomed Dharma Galang as its new director in mid-September. Dharma is an active member and leader of Berkeley Friends Church with seven years of experience on the Pantry oversight committee. She is also a parent volunteer with the Golden Dragon Project and Lincoln Elementary School in Oakland. Dharma brings a strong commitment to building food safety for individuals and families as well as experience organizing volunteers, fundraising events and grant-writing efforts.
Dharma’s focus in the months to come will be ensuring the Pantry’s financial stability through continued fundraising, building community connections and support for the Pantry, and working with Amy St. George.
Aram Antaramian works with Dharma and operates the Pantry on a day by day basis. You can often see him serving the Pantry’s visitors and clients as warmly and efficiently as possible.
Our Wonderful Volunteers!!
The Berkeley Food Pantry started with one dedicated volunteer, Dorothy Noble, a member of Berkeley Friends Church, who was led to respond to emergency calls for food.
On October 19, 1964, the Berkeley Food Pantry opened in its current location with 13 regular volunteers managing the entire operation.
Today, we have over 40 regular volunteers who help to keep the Berkeley Food Pantry going- but we can always use more!

Berkeley Food Pantry Oversight Committee (FPOC)
The FPOC is focused solely on overseeing the Food Pantry. We are a small, nimble and responsive group of 7 people:
Tomi Nagai-Rothe, clerk (i.e. chair)
Wendy Remington-Bowie, recording secretary
Louise Neal, treasurer (for the FPOC as well as the Pantry as a whole)
