Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about using the Berkeley Food Pantry during the Covid-19 crisis:


  • Do I need to reside in Berkeley or Albany to get emergency groceries from the Berkeley Food Pantry?  Yes, we are a small pantry, so we only have the resources to serve people who reside in Berkeley or Albany, California.

  • How many times a month can I come to the Berkeley Food Pantry? Please come when you are out of food and need emergency help. If you are in immediate need and require more food than we can provide, please call the Alameda County Community Food Bank Hotline at (510) 635-3663.


  • What is the process of obtaining food?  We encourage visitors to come to the Berkeley Food Pantry between 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. to obtain an appointment slip with your time to check-in and receive emergency groceries. Please return during your appointment time to check-in and receive groceries.

  • Can I wait at the Berkeley Food Pantry for my appointment time? No, please leave and return to obtain groceries at your appointment time. Due to the shelter-in-place order, please do not stay at the Berkeley Food Pantry. Please go home or to your vehicle and return during your appointment time.


  • What if I don't have an appointment or show up after 3:00 p.m.?  You will be served in the order you arrive. The Berkeley Food Pantry is open from 2-4 p.m.


  • Can I use the restroom?  At this time, we cannot offer people our restroom facilities. Thank you for your understanding.


  • What should I know when coming to pick up my groceries? Please stay 6 feet away from others at all times. All visitors should wear a face mask. If you don't have a face mask, please let a pantry volunteer or manager know and we will give you a free face mask. Please bring an ID to show the person who will check you in.


  • I am afraid to leave my home. Do you provide home delivery? Yes, we do provide home delivery. Please call (510) 525-2280 and request that we send you an application.


  • Should I wash my groceries when I take them home?  We currently suggest that everyone wash or sanitize their food items for 20 seconds before using them.
